T-5 Problem

I know this question has been addressed but I couldn't seem to find the specific information I was looking for. I'm having the ever common problem of sometimes not being able to shift into first gear, all the other gears are fine, but its first gear that I'm having a problem. The most common response to this is of course, the syncro on the first gear, but I've come to find that this may be an external shift linkage issue. Is there a way to determine which of these two is the problem without having to disassemble the entire transmission? Again sorry for asking a question I know has been asked 1,000 times.

Try to put it into first when you are SLIGHTLY rolling. Im talking anywhere from 10 or so MPH down to 1MPH. If it doesnt go in slow dont force it.

to my knowledge, the only synchro on first is a first/reverse synchro. most manuals go into first easier if you put it in reverse first, then put it in first. try that.
