not good news for my tranny i think
well i finally removed my tranny from the car and had a close look at it and it anit good, i think i need to rebuild it. When i pulled the cover off there was some black tranny fluid on the bottom and when i removed the filter it had what i would call brass bit in and some metal as well as some gaskets??/clutch (black flat bits). Also it was leakin a bit of tranny fluid from the shaft seal (shaft on the bell housing).
Just wondering what the bass bit are? and hopefully the others bits as well

The BRASS bits is probly bearing material. Which is definately NOT good.
The black bits are like you suspect, disk friction material. Some normal, but as you describe, again NOT good.
To rebuild one (700R) is not hard at all, if you feel comfortable doing an engine rebuild, you can do a trans.
Pull the pump and the front shaft and high band drum comes right out. And the low/reverse drum is held in with a snap ring, and comes right out. Pop the retaining bands on the tops, replacethe bands/reinstall and your done.

If you are going to attempt to rebuild it yourself, get the ATSG manual AND a video. I say both of these because visual aids will help you a great deal and the book can only go so far. It is a very straight forward rebuld as long as you have the right tools and some patience.

as far as right tools, I do mine with just common things. Nothing special at all.
The most special thing may be some tooth cleaning hook like things.

you'll need something to compress the springs , I custom built my own spring compressors , but , you may be able to get a local shop to do it for you for a few bucks
