TransGo shifkit and reprogramming kit? What's the difference?
Hello,
I want to make my transmission as best performing as possible (ultra quick shift and all...).
Looked at TransGo's web site and they have a reprogramming kit and a shift kit for 700-R4. What's the differences?
They also have a couple of other goodies.
What do I need from TransGo to make my car shift faster and all?

Last I checked the shift kit is just that.
The reprogramming kit has the shift kit plus a lot of other features that you may want and even includes pieces you would have to disassemble the transmission for to intstall properly to fix issues that were in them from day one at the factory.
I would get the complete kit (with video if you know nothing of trans') and save the extras until u need a complete rebuild.
later

Well,
I didn't wanted to remove the transmission anyway so I need the normal shift kit right?
Thanks

The kit will also include a pack of stiffer springs for the overrun and 2-3 clutch assemblies. These springs allow the transmission to safely tolerate higher RPM, but they have nothing to do with the "shift" kit, or reprogramming aspects of the kit. If you ever rebuild the transmission, you should install those stiffer springs, but if you don't install those springs it will make no difference to the reprogramming of the shifts whatsoever.
There's nothing inside the housing of the transmission that programs the nature of the shifts (other than indirectly by having better friction properties, spring pressures, etc). The shift characteristics are directly controlled by modifications to the valves and apply pistons (as the shift kit does).
Overall, the performance shift kit is the best deal because you get the Corvette servo included and the instructional video. You don't have to remove the transmission from the car to install it.

Contact Dana at Pro Built Automatics, he knows everything there is to know about the TransGo kits, I've got mine from him.
Just run a search for "Pro Built Automatics" username (Search -> Advanced)on the forum and his posts will be displayed; a lot of them deal with the TransGo kit.
The reprogramming kit does not come with a video but if you read the instructions 4-5 times it will start to make sense and if you need help Dana is always willing to help and so are other people on this board.
I'll be done with my install this week (half way there) and hopefully when all is done I'll put it on the net.
