car shifting crazy

ok here's what happened: 2 days ago my TV (throttle valve) cable broke off my throttle lever. as a temporary fix, i took a tie strap and affixed the remaining piece of the plastic boot that holds the cable to the lever. i drove the car car after i tied it on and it was shifting like utter crap. the next day up until today i've been trying to re-adjust the cable but i can't get it to shift normally. i ordered a new TV cable and it'll be here on wednesday. any advise on what to do in the meantime?

-Mark

additional info: the car shifts late, especially in the 1-2 up shift and 2-1 downshift. also when taking turns while braking the oil pressure drops dramatically, like down to the red, and then comes back up again.

It's just me, but if I was having problems like that, I'd wait for the new TV cable. Just not worth it IMO. I'd rather take the bus or bum rides if I had to. I wouldn't leave tranny problems to chance.

no offense taken. unfortunately i had to use the car to get to work. i found i could get it to shift by letting go of the gas at around 2500 RPM.

i put in the new cable today. wow, what a pain that was! atleast the car shift normally now. it scared me pretty bad when i was done and it wouldn't start. it eventually did after the 10th crank and kept starting after that. the only thing at bothers me is that the oil pressure still keeps dropping when i go around turns. any thoughts on that?

if you are talking about the engine's oil pressure, the tranny has nothing to do with it. check your oil level and make sure it is full. then look for leaks. if it is full and no leaks, the problem is internal. many possiblilities.
