Valve Bodies

Ok I was looking into getting a transgo shift kit from summit PN# TRG-700

Also I want to get a full manual control valve body for the 700R4 as well. Summit has 2 different ones available. The only difference I see between the 2 is that one comes with the plates. Will I need them if I get the transgo kit?

Valve Bodies:
TCI Full Manual Valve Bodies: TCI-376010 - summitracing.com

and

TCI Full Manual Valve Bodies: TCI-376015 - summitracing.com

I've never done any kind of trans work before but i thought theres no better time then now to learn a thing or two.

Are you wanting to lose the automatic capability altogether? I would advise against this as the 700R4 is not a good candidate for this. If you decide that you want to do this anyway, then the "modified" Trans-Go Performance Shift kit will work here. It will give decent fairly smooth part throttle shifts, and firm WOT shifts. What torque converter are you planning on using? What is the rear end gear ratio? & what has been done to the motor?

i hardly ever just leave the trans in drive and just go, I enjoy shifting up threw the gears. Wish I had a manual but cant afford the swap at this point. The rear end is a 3.27 posi 9 bolt. Motor is fairly stock now; headers, full exhaust (single 3") ported tpi intake. Cam and heads coming soon. The torque converter is stock as of now but will change soon. Not real sure as to what stall to go with however. Maybe you could offer some recomendations. Would this setup not be ideal for a daily driver?

if you want a manual trans, get a manual trans. A manual vb for an auto is race only oriented. You will have to manual up shift and down shift every gear change. Creates much more wear and tear on the over-run clutches, which aren't designed or intended for continous use. Also, say your buddy jumps in your car to move it, clicks it to "D" or "OD" and goes to move....high gear clutch pack is gone in no time.
- From what you have done and what you intend, either upgrade the vb with a superior or transgo kit, or put a manual trans in. - I always ask one thing about a manual trans swap for a performance car, " can you shift smoothly(no grinding, etc) without clutching and without lifting off the go pedal?" - If you can't, stick with the auto, you'll be faster.
