Shifting problems

My transmission has been slipping recently, it will usually shift around 2500 and slip to 3000. Yesterday out of no where it just completely changed. When i first start driving the car wont shift until about 3800, it doesnt slip anymore it actually shifts really smooth just way too far up. The farther i drive the lower the shift point gets, id say after about 30 miutes(yes i had to do it for work) strait, it had dropped below 3000. What the hell happened? Is the tranny completely shot or could it be a cable or a filter or somthing. Do you think it safe to keep driving it or should i stop now.

If you have other means of getting to work and elsewhere, I would certainly stop using the car until the problem has been diagnosed. I wish I knew more about diagnosing your problem myself, but I don't want to point you in the wrong direction. I just know that I have tried to get more out of a slipping trans than I should have, and It turned into a costly rebuild. Definately try to avoid that if there is a possibility of it being something less severe. If you continue driving the car in its current condition, a rebuild or new tranny may end up being your only option. Although I don't have a lot of info, at the very least I just bumped your thread to the top of the list. Good luck.
