New converter and 30 miles later :(
I recently put in a brand new Coan Converter (Item description: COA-90315 10" PRO STREET/COMPETITION CONVERTER (LOCK-UP), ALL EXCEPT LS1 ENGINE) The install was pretty straight forward except that I forgot to tighten the TV cable down to the transmission and lost the rubber seal down in the pan possibly. I noticed this right away and put a new seal in and tightened it down, but left the seal in the pan. I have no leaks and it ran and acted fine for about 30 miles. I was driving around last night and all of sudden it wouldn't move till it hit like 2500 RPMs in second gear and wouldn't shift out of a gear until it would redline. It would however drive fine in first gear except it wouldn’t shift until redline. I slowly drove it home and smelled the tranny fluid and it did smell a little burnt to me, but the fluid was hot, should it smell hot regardless if it is warm or not? The car has 46,xxx original miles on it and has had a few transmission flushes in it's 20 year past. Is the tranny shot or could it be something else??? Sorry for the long post and thanks for any help.

Well after letting my car sit for awhile I went out there and made sure the TV cable was still hooked up to inside the transmission and it is. I checked the fluid and the fluid is still new and pink but does smell a little burnt. I've never smelled my fluid before but I think it does smell burnt. I started the car up and took it for a quick drive and it is acting fine now. It shifts good and downshifts good and all gears work and act fine. Is it worth it to to take it to a shop and have them drop the pan and change the fluid and filter and remove the seal if it's in the pan or am I going to have to have it rebuilt due to the burnt fluid and the way it acted? Could it of been something stuck? I've reading some posts and could it of been a stuck govenor or a servo maybe?

Also my car has the single electric fan it doens't turn on until like 240, so could my tranny been getting hot and causing it to act like that? Because it didn't start acting like that until after about 1hr of cruising and beating on it a little. It seemed to of run fine this afternoon when it was cool. How can I tell if the tranny cooler lines are doing their job and cooling the tranny?

Can that become unstuck and work fine from now on or do I need to replace it? What usually causes something like that? Thanks!
It happened to me a few years ago and the cable ended up fraying and coming apart and the strands that were broke ended up wedging them selves into the side of the cable, thus making it stick. In your case it could have been that seal but then it could be the cable, I would triple check that cable because I ended up shreading the internals of the torque converter and ruining the trans as well.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'm going to have the trans pan dropped and the filter and fluid changed and have them check it over to make sure it's ok and also have them install a tranny cooler, thank you!

Sure enough I dropped the pan and found the tv rubber seal wrapped around the tv linkage causing the tv to be stuck open for awhile. I cut the old seal off and put a new transmission filter on and adjusted the tv cable and put some new fluid in it and now everything is cool. I didn't find any grey matter stuck to the magnet and the fluid was still nice and pink. The Camaro will now be ready to cruise for Americruise! Thanks for everyone's help! :thumbup
