9 bolt twisted

i put a 2.77 posi rear behind my 383 and t56 while i was waiting for the parts to change it to a 3 series carrier, 3.7. i launched hard a couple of times just for fun, and now the axle tubes and housing are arch shaped. anybody have the proper dimensions for the housing so i can press it back straight and weld it up.

wow, can you post up some pics of that? whenever I can get back to the shop I might be able to get some measurements from you, but I am curious as to exactly how that happened, and what it looks like. Were you on street tires?

what made me notice it was that one tire stuck out further on one side than the other. i pulled the rear to cahange the carrier and gears. i set it on a stand and it looked crooked. the other side is compsarable in shape but harder to take photos because of the mounting brackets in the way. when i got the rear it was straightwith no leaks. now the axle tubes leak where they join the diff and she's crooked. any thoughts? yeah it was street tires. 4k hard launch smoked the tires, hit second and it started sliding sidewaysout of control, then barked third. the pictures show the diff with the yoke pointed towards the ground.

wow man, thats insane. I honestly cannot say if the axle tubes are even replacaeable or not. I know on 10 bolts they are pressed in and tack welded, but on my 9 bolt I couldnt see any kind of welds, almost looked like the tubes were part of the case. In any event, I personally wouldnt be comfortable trying to bend it back straight. Might wanna start lookin for another case

you outta go ahead and fully weld the tubes before the set-up. I think it was more of a freak chance deal that you hurt the first one, but for the little bit of time it takes it would be cheap insurance.

^^^^ agreed. I mean if its already an empty case, might as well do some cheap insurance work.

im getting the shop to do the work. it is a drivetrain specialty shop that pretty much only works with rears and driveshafts. this is the first time i had ever even taken one apart, so i figured i'd let someone who knew what they were doing install the parts.
