Got this problem with your tv cable?! Lots a threads on this question!
OK First off i own a 1991 Trans Am with the 305 TPI and the 700r4 Tranny.
I was having problems with it shifting. It was worse when cold but still did it once warmed up but i'd either have to rap the motor up higher than what it should be for it to shift and it would hold for a second and shifter firm. Almost felt like a shift kit was in there but i knew for a fact there wasn't. I had adjusted and re-adjusted my Tv cable. I inspected it and the whole 9 yards. Was bout to drop the tranny last week-end to have it rebuilt before it even started slipping or giving me problems. Well i was under the hood the other day and happen to do it the way some articles say to do it. Most of the time i would just press the gas peddle all the way down before i started my car and then take off.

My suggestions. Try it from under the hood and in the car. What i did was pressed the button all the way in and pulled the cable all the way back to the firewall. I got in my car with out it running and slowly pressed the gas peddle all the way to the floor ( tryed it fast too ). Then got out and opened the throttle all the way under the hood. To my suprise i got a click or 2 ( just depended for me cause i tried it like 100 times ) more when i did it under the hood. Now if i sit in my car and stomp it all the way to the floor and put a ton of pressure on my car ( more than u would ever normally do driving down the road ) i could get them clicks. So my suggestion would be to try it both ways before you even go spend a dime cause now my tranny works great. Other than it shifting really firm from 1'st to 2nd when its cold but goes away after about 5 minutes of driving.!!!!
So maybe to people that just say hey your tv cable is strectched. I found out my throttle cable was stretched and wasn't openeing that could extra cm's i guess to get that extra click.
**** Temp Fix if your problem was like mine!!! ********
My temp fix was i had a friend hold the throttle all the way open under the hood and i crawled under the dash and pressed the gas all the way to the floor with out mashing it into the carpet. To my suprise i had more extra cable than i expected ( if you have slack from where it clicks on the arm of the gas lever and it goes into the protective coding ). I just pulled the cable tight and was able to put a zip tie around the end of the cable to jerry rig it until i figure out whats the part # for the cable i need. They have so many different selections that i just want to buy the right one the first time and not have to reinstall 100 different ones.
Hope this helps someone cause i see a lot of people with TV and Tranny shifting questions and never seen an answer like mine.
Good luck and the best wishes for buring some rubber

So did you get better shifting from pulling out all the way or just pressing down the peddel. I got a little confused, jsut want to know if its better ot pull it all the way out WOT or just as far as the peddel will go?

Do tell! I noticed the same thing, I could get different ammounts of clicks whether I was inside the car or under the hood. I went with the gas pedal result for now but can easily change it if I must. Member

was having the same problem with my 700r4 that i just rebuilt, thought it was a valve sticking. didnt know how to adjust it so i searched on here and found out how to do it. before i fixed mine, mine wouldnt want to shift til after 3000.
you can do all of this from under the hood, with engine off
what you do is if its already connected to the little pin on the throttle body bracket, push in the tab and push the square plastic piece all the way to the firewall, as far as it will go, release tab. then take the throttle body and make it go to wot and then bring it back to where it is closed. thats all
of course you can play with it, the more you bring the square plastic piece that slides thru the tab towards the front of the car, the later the car will shift, bad on gas mileage though. when thru half a tank in a day when it was shifting at 3,000

If you're not getting WOT through the gas pedal, I'd look into that first

My problem is that i did a carb swap from TBI and my throttle cable is longer now, (still the stock one) i had to use split shots to get it where i could put it down, so there might be some reason why i cant go WOT yet, but i was jsut currious if its was easier and better under the hood or should i just use my pedal, i mean whats the sence in opening it WOT under hood if i cant acheve it by pedal, and i dont know if you guys have heard about the TC Lock out but if you go from TBI to Carb here is something for you to look into

if your geometry is set up properly, both under the hood adjustments, and pedal adjustments should give you 100% WOT. If your pedal is only opening the throttle shaft 90%, I'd look into the throttle cable geometry before trying to adjust your tv cable.
what carburetor are you using?

Some people just tend to stab a cable on a carb w/o checking binding and travel, and then wonder why they can't open the secondaries when they have the pedal on the floor.
Good to see people getting creative fixing these things!
