700R4 durability test
yeah, so i pretty much blew my T10... i thought they could handle quite the punishment... but i guess four hundred fifty four cubic inches is too much for it to take all at once...
Was wondering how many ft/lbs a 700R4 from an 89 305 camaro can take, and what i would have to do to put that bad boy into my standard car.
reason im asking is cause i dont have the dough to buy another T10, cause theyre bloody rare here... and i dont have enough for a tough enough 5 spd, or a 6 spd... auto wrecker said i can pick up a 700R4 for about $650. i want the over drive cause 454+3.73 = gallons to the mile.

700R4 are really good, especially if you add a shift kit and a corvette servo that thing would fly and yeah it would handle your 454 depending of the condition of the trans.

Add a loose, smaller diameter converter, with lock-up and it might have a chance to stay alive. I killed my 700r4 with a 305.

You'd have to cover the hole in the floor for the manual shifter and mount an automatic shifter, change the console, plumb in a transmission cooler and get the torque converter clutch to lock. I don't know how long I'd expect a stock 700R4 to last, though.
a stocker won't last long, but a proper built 700 can handle a really stout 454(ask me how I know
) PATC's(raptor) website/techs will answer all your questions on what you need to make it live.
- don't waste your time with the vette servo. I use those for stock rebuilds. Performance 700r's should always have the billet servos.

hmmm, well i need to scrape up some cash, cause this was my daily driver, im driving my bros unmuffled civic
... how much would a TH350 or 400 cost, plus all the parts to convert from standard to auto.. i have no clue waht all id need, so a little list would be appreciated :P my shop teacher said i can do it all in class so that will be nice

You could build about 3 TH350s for the price of one 700R4. You'll need the transmission, flexplate, torque converter, transmission cooler, vacuum line, kickdown cable, some sheet metal, a 3 speed shifter and a console top.

hmm... not bad, that shouldnt push me over $1000 would you think? and... sheet metal, whats that for lol

To cover up the gaping hole in the floor where the manual shifter comes through so you can mount the automatic shifter.

ahh that makes sense... well i was gonna put a mega shifter and a trans-go kit before i stick it in there, so u can cross a few parts off the list
