V6 to V8 Swap

Hey Guys,

Im 17 years old and i own a 92 camaro. 3.1 v6. Ive been saving up my money and have around $500. I was thinking about buying a 305 and having someone put it in for me. Do any of you have an idea how much it would cost for someone to do that? I was wondering if my tranny would work with the v8. I think it is a 700r4 but im not sure. It has 16 bolts on the pan. Also would i need to get new front springs for the added weight..Hey huys thank you for your time.
P.S. Im planing on going wednesday to the junk yard to see if they have a 305 that is in good shape.

need a v8 tranny to go along with that 305, and putting all this money just for a 305 isnt worth it, go 350 or dont bother. you will need new motor mounts, tranny mounts. the front springs will hold, and give it a much better stance from the added weight but if your worried you can exchange for some v8 springs.

you goin carbed? or stayin fuel injected? because if you go carbed you will need to have another problem with the fuel pump in the tank, and carbed it will be on the block, i just took a v8 carbed tank from a camaro/firebird and installed it, but you will be fine if you stay fuel injected.

It's a BIG job, kid.

Take it from some guys who have done this before and buy an entire parts car. 500 bucks could get you a wreck somewhere, maybe, but at least you'd have all of the nuts and bolts you need.

This is a big job if you're on a budget. You should maybe save up some more cash and start writing out LOTS of plans. Try to cover everything.

You should also spend hours and HOURS reading the posts in the engine swap section here. Even then this will be a huge task. Don't get down; I'm just trying to let you know what you're in for before you have everything torn apart and then decide it's too far to go...

Good luck!

P.S. The V6 tranny WILL NOT bolt to the V8

So i should just try to beef up the 3.1??lol. I already have a cold Air Induction kit on it. IS there any way that it could have the power the 305 would have? could it sound as nice and be as fast?

Why dont you use the $500 to take your girl out.

save up, sell the car, buy one that has the options you want from the start. I put in a posting last week a list of almost 20 thirdgens for under $1500 that were in good shape, with v8s.

Selling the car would an option for most people but not me. You see ive spent over $3500 in repairs and have had both rear quarter panels replaced and had the car completly repainted 4 months ago. Selling it is kinda out of the option. Do you know how I could get some good power with out swapping motors ?

I think you should listen to the guys a little more. Just a little.

Drive your car and enjoy it some. Put yourself a nice exhaust on it and fix the interior and the stereo. When you need to upgrade the engine you can always do it later.

You could also do like we do and own two of them!

What would be a good exhaust? that wouldnt make the car sound like a honda civic? I think i might just save up and buy a v8 camaro. Just a beater and save the v6 for cruisin.
