Transmission Cooler Lines

Ok, i got an automatic trans from a 85 iroc 305 LG4, the old trans cooler lines are about shot, we just dropped a new motor in, and I was wondering can I run rubber lines from the trans to the radiator where they hook up? I just wanted to make sure there isnt alot of PSI that would blow a line, or would the trans fluid eat or swell the rubber line? thanks!

you could run high pressure rubber lines, but it'd be a very weak link and a hack job at best. run steel or flexable steel lines.

Why would it be a weak link? Or a hack job?

It's generally considered bad practice to run any significant length of rubber hose, since it's so vulnerable to being damaged.

go to the parts store and buy some 5/16" brake line and bend it up and install. should be under $7 total. I believe i used the 52" length pieces for the top and slightly smaller for the bottom.

If you do decide to run rubber hose, go to a shop that cuts the hose to the length you want. Buy power steering hose (return line), cut to the length you need. This hose won't deteriorate from the fluid.

trans line

I used trans line I bought from auto zone, the clamps I used are the type that are made specifically to not cut into the rubber the more you tighten them, I routed them the same way the hard lines used to be and securedthem with rubber coated brackets , it looks neat and clean and no rubbing, also no leaks at all.
