long 1st gear

Mines an 87 305...700R4 w/ 2.73 gears. The problem is that when I floor it 1st gear hangs on forever. Its like the engine is @ WOT for a couple seconds until it shifts to 2nd. When it shifts to 2nd the car flies!!....Is this how its supposed to be. I mean the engine seems like its going to blow before it kicks into 2nd. Ive adjusted the tv cable a couple times, and it seems correct. Anything else you guys can think of. If i let off the throttle a little bit it will kick into 2nd faster, but i loose rpms??...whats wrong..

Shift kit maybe??

Move the TV cable 1 notch toward the front of the car. If it is worse, move it 2 notches toward the rear (effectively 1 notch back from where you had it.) Slight adustments like this are common and acceptable. Do not move it more than a couple notches from where you have it now.

My 87 Trans Am shift out of 1st gear at 5500 rpms at WOT.
Keep that in mind. With a 2.73, it will take a little to get to 5500 rpms.
I have now changed my gear to a 3.73, and if shifts the same 5500 rpms.

My lg4 redlines at 5000 so that would be a problem for me. Mine shifts out of 1st a little over 3000.
