Drain and fill on T5
Drain and fill on T5
Ok this seems like something that should come right up in a search but I have found nothing on it. Im guessing I will need some sort of hand pump? The problem im having is because of the fact that the fill and drain plug is one in the same. I thought I would get peoples thoughts and methods on the issue before I even go mess with it (its cold outside and I dont want to be out there long)
Thanks

Here's a T-5 case. THis is just the front part of it, viewed from the pass side; the "ears" at the right end of it are what bolts to the bell housing.
Note the 2 plugs. The hole with no plug in it is the fill, the one with the plug still in it is the drain.
A hand pump does make it easier though. You can pick one up at the boat store or some parts stores that will screw onto the top of a bottle of gear lube or ATF, whichever is appropriate for yor particular trans. 87-back use gear lube, 88-up use ATF.
One VERY IMPORTANT thing: DO NOT remove the screw head looking thing on the driver's side!!! The trans will fall apart internally and you will have to remove and disassemble it to fix it.

I was itching my head also. The book I was looking at has a picture of the drain plug on the tranny and labeled it Drain/Fill plug. I knew that is gravitationally impossible but my intincts have been wrong before so I went along with the book. Although today I found out they where just refering to the plugs as a part and since they are the same they only pointed to the one hole:/
