Powertrax unit
I've got a stock rear end in my 92 and want to install a powertrax unit. Anyone know the part number for this? I't my understanding that I've got 28 spline axles and Summit hasn't been a ton of help in which one to get.

Save the extra 100 dollars and get a true posi like a trutrac or an eaton.I absolutely HATE my powertrax unit.The popping around corners drives me nuts.Sometimes if coming out of a turn it doesn't engage till after you start going straight for abit and locks in and causes quite a "wiggle".

yep, i had a powertrax in my old s-10 and it sucked *****, id rather DD a full spool than one of those, the detriot true trac is what i'll be running in my 9"

The only thing that sucks about buying a whole posi carrier is you either have to **** around yourself or pay to have a shop set up the gears.
At least with a powertrax type unit you just pop it in and go, no pissing around or extra costs!
But i do agree, picking up a new carrier is the better way to go...

i have one, its just an attempt at getting a little more traction until i get my 12 bolt. and i got it cheap, like 200$ its a little weird driving it when its locking and unlocking and sometimes the car seems to wander about on the road when you are at wot

it's the original version of the lockright that they made back in the late 90's, though the new design doesn't look much stronger as EvilCartman has broken his newer style as well.
Listen to these guys! Powertrax units suck a s s! I used the same line of logic as 84Z28350 and decided to run one since I could avoid having to set up the backlash on the new carrier assembly. I wouldn't run another one of those things if someone gave it to me for free. Jerky, noisy, scary around corners, and just downright miserable on the street. Save up the extra money and get a clutch style posi or zexel-torsen unit. I wouldn't count on Summit to be much help either, that's who sold me my powertrash unit when they first came out, and they were trying to convince hot rodders that they were the greatest thing since sliced bread. They're great for off road vehicles, but have no place in a street/strip car. If you have the original rearend in your car, you definitely have 28 spline axles. They changed from 26 spline in late 89.

I was thinking about the Powertrax unit as well, but my Camaro is not a rock crawling 4X4.
