Fixed the common rattle

Read a few posts about the common rattle associated with 3rd gen automatics

Mine got progressivly worse over the last year and i was gonna find out what was doin it

Its the torque converter to flexplate bolts

Apparently GM didnt locktite those bolts, one was missing, one was about halfway worked out and the 3rd was finger tight

30 mins and i got a quiet idle for the first time since Ive owned the car

Take it for what its worth

i lost a TC bolt a few months ago hotrodding around w/ a couple 3rd gens...wheels i think that's the only time i've seen your z on the road, haha.

...when you're down there, double check to make sure the flexplate bolt holes aren't elongated.

where the transmission meets the engine, on the underside of the car. The torque converter bolts to the flexplate, these are the bolts we are refering to, hope these pics help (first ones i could get)

Thanks for the pics!
I haven't been under my car for some time now, but it seems from the pics, some cover has to come of, before you can reach those bolts, right?

Yeah you have to remove the inspection cover first. Only 4 bolts, takes about 5 minutes.

can I remove the inspection cover and check this??
Is it true that if i turn it with a big flathead screwdriver, and both the flexplate and the torque converter dont turn together then there is a problem with the bolts???
