82 auto shifter vs. 87 one
the answer is probably no but i was wanting to confirm whether an 87 auto shifter assemby is the same as an 82 one and if not then why not, what parts of it are not the same as far as not being able to use a round 82 **** on an 87 shifter assembly
can you use any of the 82 parts to make the round **** work on the 87 assembly ?
thanks

Axle/Gears: no idea
As far as i know. the 82 only had 3 gears or something. you woudlnt be able to use it fully on newer trans ams because they shift further down into lower gears. i want the 82 shifter handle in my 86 i'm basically goign to cut and weld the shifter ends so the handle can attatch like normal.
----------
the shifter shafts have different grooves for the round and t-handles to attatch on between the years.

i dont care about not being able to get into 1rst with a 700r4 and 82 shifter, i already knwo that you couldnt anyways, ppl worry about minute stuff like that too much
i am just concerned about using an 82 **** on an 87 shifter assembly
i wish my 82 was accessible to where i could compare this 87 shifter to my 82 one, hum.. but its in a temporarily permanent storage i would have ot do some demolition work to get to the car and be able to get just the driver side door open, let alone the other one, and i dont plan on doing any of that until i have an engine ready to drop in it, which still could be the 400 engine if i find an old 2wd beater work truck with my tax return and dont have to pull and sell the 400thats in the 77 k-10 to get one,
thanks

would there be any real problem with swapping the 87 auto shifter assembly into my 82 in place of the original th200c one ?
**** and all
use the same cable and be fine ?
th350 trans is what i am running
the 87 shifter will physically swap in and bolt in and work right ?
if not then why not
thanks
