How much to have a T-5 built to hold 450+TQ?

i'm have a T-5 thats coming out of my parts car that i want to have built to handle the 406 i'm having rebuilt. what would should i be expecting for a reasonable quote, i'm guessing that my power range for now will be around 350/400 hp/tq but down the road i could i could be seeing 450/500 hp/tq easy. there's one shop in town but i don't want to go there and have them give me a quote that's higher than what it's gonna cost for my engine.

If you're not going to race it, the T5 will hold up. If you do race it, then you should spend the money for a T56 or Tremec 5-speed. Lots of people here with "rebuilt" T5's still break them.

The only way to build a T5 to handle that kind of power level is to use the "Super T5" gearset offered from Astro Performance, and even then, it's still a crapshoot to whether it'll handle it or not. The other bad part of that deal is that the "Super T5" gearset runs about $1100 in price. If you're willing to spend between $1500-$2000, you can go with a T56 or Tremec TKO, either of which are way more bulletproof than any T5, no matter what parts are used in it. You could always baby the T5 and get it to last, but who would want to put a badass 406 in their car and not be able to take advantage of the power because they have to worry about the trans breaking?

my T-5 held up to close to that much torque...

for 6 1/4 mile passes. lol

bone stock trans, clutch included, and sprayed 150 wet shot to my TPI 305 from about 1200rpms, with quick time DOT's

stock 305 is like 275-295ft/lbs or something, and figure 100-150 ft/lbs with the 150 shot minimum. thats prob low 400-ft/lbs.
car ran 12.90@108 and i just broke the tranny the other day, after i installed headers on it; not using the nitrous.

no more 3rd or 4th gear whatsoever.

whoops

Read the thread about G-Force in the aftermarket review board. The owner of the company came in and said that 700 HP number is only with a stock clutch and stock street tires. If you put a good clutch and drag tires on it, their T5 will not hold up.
One guy in our local SoCal club has broken a G-Force T5 twice, putting 375 horsepower to the wheels and 400 TQ.

oh wow.. kinda scary to hear something like that.. i have a 11" centerforce dual friction and i'm gonna be running hoosier QTP's.. also gonna be shooting for around 400rwhp and 400rwtq after i tune the carb.. i guess i'll be going to a t-56/4.30 combo later on..

My G Force has held 490 FWTQ and 390 FWHP so far....that being said, if I planned on putting slicks on it and switching it to strictly a drag car, I'd ditch the T-5, and skip getting a T-56 altogether and get a Tremec most likely. Lighter, geared more race oriented, But there's no garantee (sp) on any of them once you drive down the quarter......
