Called my local GM dealership yesterday...

I've got the 'maro in the shop for a wide assortment of things, one of which is getting the right speedo gears. So, to make things a bit easier for the shop (and faster getting the car back) I called the dealership to see if they had the gears in stock. Now, I called them about 6 months ago, and they had them. The guy on the phone said they've been discontinued!!

So, anyone with any insight, tell me: Was he blowing smoke, or telling the truth?
Are we gonna have to hit the junkyard, or talk to someone who knows what they're talking about?

Wouldn't suprise me one bit. I have found out that the Corvette TV Sleeve and plunger have been discontinued as well.

Wouldnt doubt it. these cars are getting near 20 years old now, its not worth it for them to keep producing and stocking parts for such old vehicles.

Exactly, GM is in the business to build and sell NEW cars, not keep 20 year old cars on the road.

Yep

'Exactly, GM is in the business to build and sell NEW cars, not keep 20 year old cars on the road.'

Thats right Fast...thats what pissed me off about car dealers (salesman) is that they just want to get the inventory sold and don't want to know anything about keeping long term customers (of older cars) happy...its all about selling the latest car and not about backing up your product, new or old

the raptor 700r4 guys have an incredible selection of speedo gears. just make sure you get the late model variety that slip onto the metal shaft. I had a solid plastic speedo gear that broke after 4 miles.

I was on patc raptor's ebay store the other day, and they probably had every tooth count made available. As far as the GM dealership goes, I was able to get the metal shaft style cable speedo drive like Tobias mentioned a few years ago. They called it the "sleeve assembly", and said I needed a different one for the 3.42 ratio, since I was getting speedo gears to go with the rearend swap at the time. However, it looked identical to my original "sleeve" that was used with 2.73's. It might be discontinued by now, but I'm betting it's still available. However, I'm not surprised at all if the plastic style is no longer available since they did come on the older thirdgens.
