Wierd problem T-5

Hey I'm having a strange problem if I sit at a stoplight and put my car into and out of gear eventually it will start to make a kind of grinding noise (I can feel it in the shifter as well) if I put it in neutral and let out of the clutch the noise stops.

I suspect throwout bearing or possibly something to do with a disengagement issue due to the clutch fluid being too hot from my headers.

Anybody else have any ideas?

Let me know what you think

Re: Wierd problem T-5

Nope, not the clutch fluid. Not disengagement either.

Sounds to me like it needs a pilot bearing or bushing .... BAD. That goes in the back of the crank and supports the tip of the gear (looks kind of like a shaft from outside the trans) that the clutch is riding on. Take care of it right away before it trashes the transmission. If that goes on for a long time, the othe rberaings on that gear get overstressed, and the damage can get REAL expensive.

Odds are, if the PB is worn out, the clutch is too. Since you have to take it all completely apart to change the PB, it'd be real common-sensical to replace the clutch and get the flywheel turned, all at the same time.
