Do I need a different stall
Here's my DD2000 hp/tq table.
Right now I have the stock converter in my 92 350 GTA. I'm getting the Pro-built street/strip rebuild kit and was wondering if i'm going to need a stall.
Do I?
What benefits would I see with upgrading my stall?
What can I expect using my stock stall?
Driveability?
It's mostly a street warrior with the occassional dragstrip day. Also sees nothing less than a perfect day.

Just got off the phone with CompCams.
They said the range on this roller cam is 2000 - 6200.

Re: Do I need a different stall
Converter math seems to be kind of in the same ballpark as cam selection. Any suggestions?

Re: Do I need a different stall
Seems high to me but then I don't know much when it comes to this.
The only stall I ever put in was for a 92 Talon TSi AWD. It was a dog off the line.
What can I expect driveabililty and streetability-wise with a 3K stall? Mileage?

Re: Do I need a different stall
3000 sounds high but it actually the conveter will stall around there probably give or take 200 or 300 rpm depend on your motor. I have a 3000 stall and it drive's fine and streetable. Just because its a 3000 stall dosent mean it will launch a 3000 all the time it just it "flash " point when you mash the gas.

Re: Do I need a different stall
For my info:
What difference would there be between the 3K stall and say a 2400 stall?

Re: Do I need a different stall
The difference is when you mash the gas your conveter would stall to around those rpm's. That's why you want to match your cam powerband to your torque converter. So the coverter will stall where your making power.

Re: Do I need a different stall
According to the dyno sheet my fly hp increases about 50hp per 500 rpm.
230hp @ 2500
280hp @ 3000
So a 3K stall should stall at 280hp? Why wouldn't I want it to stall around 2500? Stock my car had 245 fly hp.
Just trying to fully understand this voodoo.

Re: Do I need a different stall
The stall speed is up to you. You can go either way 2500 or 3000 stall. It just how far in your power band you want to be in.

Interesting. And makes sense.
Does everybody agree with a 3K stall? Opinions?

Re: Do I need a different stall
im running a 3500 stall with a 224/230 .503/.510 112lsa and it works fine... have to rev it a little higher to get up to speed but once it locks up from what i here it feels like a stock converter...(im still trying to get my lock up to work)

Re: Do I need a different stall
I gave Dana a call. He suggested a 2800 with my driving and my gears. Sounds good to me.
Now I have the street/strip rebuild kit, trans cooler, and 2800 edge stall on the way. More fun. :lala:

I have plenty of Mustang kills. Now I can actually play with the new GT's.
