Manual tranny shifter
Ok, here's the deal. I just bought a '89 IROC with a manual trans and am in the process of fixing it up. I just had to take it out the other day and drive it and found that when I got on the accelerator pretty good, the shifter **** lifts up considerably. It kind of freaked me out at first, but now I just don't know what's up. If I don't get on it too much and drive it easy, nothing happens. Anybody know what's going on?

Hey guys, Thanks a lot! That's great news, I was beginning to get a little stressed and freaked out about the whole thing. I definitely came to the right people!

Re: Manual tranny shifter
the reason it lifts up is because the torque arm is trying to rotate upward to counter-act the force of the tires on the ground. When the tranny mount gets old or overloaded you feel the shifter raise up. If you plan on beating on it a lot or plan on making a lot of power, get a polyurethane mount, a solid mount, or get a crossmember with a torque arm mount.

napa has the rubber one for about $12-20. I'd recommend a polyurethane one. Most of the polyurethane suspension companies have them. Prothane, ES, etc.

yeah. Polyurethane will last A LOT longer than a rubber one. the rubber one I put in my camaro didn't make it 2 years.

And this will work with my 5-speed? I'm pretty sure it's a T-5, but haven't checked to be 100% sure. Once again, I appreciate all the input.

Re: Manual tranny shifter
Just as j dezzy said, go with a polyurethane. They are alot more dependable than a rubber mount. Besides they arent that exspensive.
