700r4 rebuild gurus: 2-4 band question

How much movement should the 2-4 band inside the case after it has been replaced? That is the only part of this rebuild I am having trouble with. After the band pin is replaced, it seems like I can move the band up and down too much, but maybe it's okay. Any tips on that part of the assembly?

It's a 30-spline from an 85 T/A, if that makes a difference.

If your using stock type servos its not so much and issue but basically you want it to be tight but loose enough so theres very little drag on the reverse input drum

Re: 700r4 rebuild gurus: 2-4 band question

I think my 700R4 is done. I cant get it to shift to 2nd...if you romp on it and let off it seems to shift but with the amount of pull itd definately in 3rd. So it skips 2nd and I believe there is no 4th. In 4th its like neutral...no pull. Im guessing th 2-4 band is shot. I hardly drive it and its been 3yrs since the rebuild with very little mileage. Havent pulled the pan yet, but I think I wont be able to see anything about the band anyway. Maybe, its something else but Im doubtful.
