type F or dexron ATF, is there a difference? and couple t5 questions.
ok quick question im going to be cranking my iroc tomaro with the new t-5 in it and i got B&M trans fluid put it in and realized it said meets type F requirements on the back in fine print. everyone has told me to run ATF this is still ATF but it isnt dexron like the trans fluid i usually use... my question will the B&M stuff i put in work or do i need to drain it and use dexron?
also what switch on the clutch pedal do i wire the yellow and purple nuetral saftey wires too?
and one more question my t5 has an electronic sender for the speedometer my old 700r4 was mechanical sender can i get a mechanical sender for the t5 that will work with my mechanical speedo?
thanks again for the help guys.

Mike the B&M trans fluid will work cover vehicvles that use either fluid. The F-Type fluid( if I remember correctly
) is a thinner fluid and used in older Ford appl, the Dexron has always been used in GMs. Back in the day GM hot rodders use to use the F-Type fluid after they put in a shift kit in their th 350/400's. hth

Oh and on your m/t speedo question, I think Richmond Gear may have the speed sensor or can point you in the direction for one, good luck.

I don't think the type "f" fluid is thinner. It does have friction modifier in it. Fords used to use clutches in their autos that required additional additive to mate up and grab together. GM put the extra friction material in the clutch plates themselves and used a more "neutral" oil that was about 10 weight. New dexron III fluid also has friction modifier in it so its apparently no big deal.
The reason GM guys (like me) use type f in our cars is two fold; it gives you more friction modifier to help the clutches grab better - especially in higher mileage cars - and the dexron seems to be a little more acidic and deteriorate seals that much faster.
I don't think it does squat to a manual tranny.

Kris is correct
fords used F until 82
gm didnt
some fluids meet all specs, ford, gm, and chrysler
read the bottle more carefully

You don't have to change your fluid.
It will help shifts in GM AUTOMATIC transmissions, not standard shift. It won't hurt, though, so you should be okay to run it.

Look up in the archives on this. I spoke about this in detail. To much misinformation here. If you do not find it, I will come back later when I have time.

Re: type F or dexron ATF, is there a difference? and couple t5 questions.
ok so i just drove the car again and its not doing too good at all. everytime ive went to put it into gear i had to force it into gear, this was with the car on or off i had to physically put it into each gear... and it wont go into reverse at all with the car on just grinding... what is the deal i have the type F fluid in it maybe that is the problem, also the clutch pedal seems wrong... when i let out of the clutch it doesnt move but maybe an inch inch and a half and then you are rolling and another half inch and you are in the gear completely.. when i drive my bro's foxbody it is totally different. in his car you dont start moving untill the clutch pedal is out a good ways further than mine. but they are two different cars and his is a clutch cable also. so i guess it could be that the clutch is not completely engaing into neutral... idk what do you guys think any questions just ask and ill let you know whats its doing and everything better.
im gonna have my uncle a mechanic take a look at it and see what he thinks and see what you guys think and ill go from there.

Your clutch cable isn't adjusted properly. The reason you can't get the car in gear is because the clutch isn't releasing all the way. First thing to check, did you install the correct cable? If you think everything is installed correctly, have your mechanic help you get things adjusted.
