fixed tv cable, possible other problem?
Okay, I completely gutted my engine, and rebuilt it, and I put in a thunder series 650cfm carb (no computer)... I have been having problems with it downshifting,(ive posted before, and got a lot of responses stating it was my tv cable) so I finally fixed my tv cable (700r4 tranny).
It turns out it wasnt even hooked up to the tranny, so basically me adjusting the cable wasnt doing anything acceleration/overdrive wise... It was just messing around with the wire. Now I have the cable hooked up to the tranny, but Im still having problems. It only seems to downshift from 2nd to 1st, there is no 3rd to 2nd or 4th to 3rd. And sometimes it doesnt even want to downshift from 2nd to 1st, it just builds rpm's in the gear its in when i floor it.
I had a friend run it over with me and the only thing he could say is that this transmission has a soleinoid? in it and because their is no computer governing the tranny/carb, it doesnt know when to downshift properly.
Does this sound right? Could that be the actual problem, or is my tranny ******... Would getting a transmission that does not require a computer or is not electronically controlled help solve the problem?
Thanks if anyone can help, I really hope nothing is wrong to my car!

If you have a stock 85 trans, you don't have a computer controlled trans. IIRC they weren't put into cars till 93 or 94. The only solenoid in the trans is the TCC. I am not a trans expert by far, but I would take an uneducated guess and say the TV in the valve body could be either sticking or worn allowing fluid pressure to bypass assuming pressure is good to begin with.
There are people on here a whole lot better on a trans than me hopefully they will throw in their

Thanks for the help, I took out the screw and felt around in the housing where the tv cable goes (octopus arms...) Everything seems fine, maybe the tranny was damaged because the tv cable wasnt hooked up for such a long time?
It seems that the th350 seems to work alot better when downshifting and such, maybe ill look into putting one of those in or hell, ill save up for a t56...
thanks again,
jim
