Need to replace Axle Bearings

This will be my first attempt at replacing the axle bearings and seals. Any tips...

I have read up and searched as much as I can, and I think I have a good grasp of the general procedure. I am not too familiar with a C-Clips, (at least I don't think I am) are they fairly easy to remove?

The other question I have is when installing the new bearings (without a hydraulic press) what is the best way? Block of wood and hammer it in? I know if you hammer in the seals slowly they will leak.

Again any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If the cross shaft bolt head is rounded, consider replacement from GM (P/N 14056196). A 5/16" six-point socket and a quarter-inch breaker bar works wonders. A sharp whack may loosen the bolt. The replacement has a dab of red Loctite on it, so perhaps some heat would be of use. Slow pressure may snap the bolt, which isn't something you'd like to see happen. Lift out the C-clips with a magnet. I used RTV around the bearings and banged them into place with a four-pound sledge and a piece of 2 x 4. No leaks.

the funnest part is always removing the bearings from end of tube, invest or borrow a slide hammer with compatible puller tip,if cage breaks just toss he bearings and grind thru the race, alot of fun
