Forgive my nOObininity
but I'm trying to get my battleplan together for a restification of a thirdgen camaro.
I'm planning on a 383 stroker SBC that turns out about 450 or maybe even 475 horses. Torque will be around 450ft lbs.
To get this to the ground I'm planning on a Tremec five speed and 3.73 gears.
I realize the rear end will need to be seriously beefed up. Mostly my vehicle is going to be a cruiser\weekend warrior with an occasional trip to the strip. I read the article on beefing the stock rearend and it seems to me as long as I'm getting some tire spin off the line, the rearend should hold. Opinions?
The TREMEC TKO500 is a little cheaper and will handle the torque, but is it wise with my engine-gearing combo to go with such a wide ratio (3.27 in 1st) or should I shell out a bit more and go for the closer ratio TKO600? I'm leaning toward the 600 because it's rated for 600ft lbs of torque JUST IN CASE 450 isn't enough for me.
Price vs more durability and future proofing.

As long as your rear tires spin, the rear end will hold longer than if the rear tires just hooked. Beef it up if you want. Personally i'm waiting to blow mine up so I can just replace it.
I'd give yourself room to grow with the TKO600.

the tko600 is only like 100$ more. Just get it. Just think, if you do end up with more power than planned, and you blow the tko500, you will have to drop another 2g's on another trans.
