Auto to Stick?

My uncle basically gave me my 1987 IROC-Z28 Camaro and I've been looking for one that is stick but I couldn't pass up the deal.......just wondering how much work/money it would cost to convert it to stick......If I could do this I would be so so happy! lol

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Auto to Stick?

It's not that hard actually. I'm 16yrs old with a little more then a years experience on working with cars and I for the most part finished my t56 swap tonight. If you buy everything as a kit its alot cheaper and as for the time if you work your a** off you can do it in a weekend or less.

Before you deal with them you might want to do a little reading on their company history...

Re: Auto to Stick?

I'm in the middle of doing my swap to a t56 right now. I'm spreading out the work over 3 weekends though. I payed $650 for the tranny, driveshaft, pedals, starter, master cylinder, and shifter. Flywheel and clutch assembly was junk though so had to buy all new. So here's my rundown of expenses so far.
-$650 Tranny, driveshaft, pedals, starter, master cylinder, shifter
-$325 New clutch disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throwout bearing
-$160 Custom crossmember
-$42 For the tranny sensors
-$88 Dakota Digital converter box
-$30 New rear main seal and gasket.
-$25 New transmission mount
-$60 Flywheel resurfacing
Total = $1380

So i'm about where most people pay for the swap. Assorted other parts are probably going to cost me another $100. I could have saved money had I gotten the sensors from the guy I bought the tranny from but failed to realize that at the time. I could have also been patient and shopped the classifieds for the crossmember and converter box but I didn't have time. I hope to make back at least $500 from selling my automatic as it is a GM Goodwrench remanufactured tranny with only about 12k on it.
