torque converter problem?

heres whats happening, i stop at a light and my car is idleing at 750rpm(should be 500) i put it in park the idle goes to 1500rpm i tap the throttle and the idle goes back to normal. A friend told me it could be a faulty converter. the car idles okay after about 45 min of driving. the iac and tps are clean and adjusted correctly. does anyone have ideas or been through this problem. I have to stand on the brakes at stop lights couse it wants to go. thanks alot

Re: torque converter problem?

Could be the worn bushings in the throttle body/carbon buildup keeping the blades open slightly. I doubt this is a trans problem... If your pushing up against the stall speed of the converter it will try to pull through the brakes.

Re: torque converter problem?

could be a lot of things, but it's not a converter issue. The tc can in no way make the engine idle to high, especially when in neutral.

Re: torque converter problem?

X2 What year did they have the TPI and ColdStart Injector? IDK but could that be a possibility. Usually its a bad MAF or IAC.

Re: torque converter problem?

thanks alot for the info. Even though i took the throttle body of and cleaned it, its got to be something sticking on the tps cause i shot a little bit of pb blaster where the throttle plate connects to the tps lever and it stopped doing it for a day or so.
