Berlinetta v6 tranny??

im asking this for a friend, because, hes in need of a replacement transmission, most likely a remanufactured tranny, but i dont know what type he has,

but he owns a 1985 berlinetta camaro with the 2.8 v6 wich is auto, i know our v8's came with a 700r4 but im not familliar with the v6's, im also pretty sure his gear ratios are 3.42's

He needs a "flat top" 60 degree 700. The possible donors are a v6 blazer or s10 or another camaro or firebird.

Re: Berlinetta v6 tranny??

Your buddy can use a V6 700R4 tranny from ANY 84-92 Camaro or Firebird. 87 and up are said to be the better years to look for. Just be sure that he saves and re-uses the electric speedometer sending unit from his oringinal transmission when performing the swap ! He will also need to be sure the speedo gear on the replacement tranny's tail-shaft is the right color and tooth count so his speedometer will show the correct reading.

Re: Berlinetta v6 tranny??

thnx, i'll let him know this

he's not really mechanically inclined and doesnt have a garage, so he's gonna send it into a shop to do it, id offer to help cuz me and my dad did my engine and transmission swap at the top of my driveway, on jackstands, but that was a pain in the rear, lol, also i dont think my father would be too fond of his car being in our driveway, cuz at the moment we r fixing our boat b4 we give it away to our uncle

but ill tell him to make sure the people doing the swap make sure to use the same sending unit and to make sure the right color and tooth count are the same as well
