t-5 swap to 350 4 bolt

hi, i have a 700r4 in my car right now and i am seriously thinking of switching to a t-5. i noticed hawks has a used set up that supposedly includes everything. i have a few questions though.

because i have a 4 bolt 355 which flywheel would i use and witch starter? when i did the swap i couldn'y use the l98 starter or flexplate because it bolted up differently. how would i know witch flywheel and starter i would need?

what about the driveshaft can i use the one i have? what about the tranny brace that bolts the tranny in?

next, what is needed to make the swap? how do i install the pedles, clucth cylinder and linkage cables? anyone familiar with hawks converstion kit i was talking about? does it come with a new center counsle with shift boot?

lastley, my car is a carb setup, does the t-5 require anything electrically to work properly? cause i have no more emissions or fuel injected relatted stuff in my car. it's all converted.

Re: t-5 swap to 350 4 bolt

The flywheel and starter do not care which center 3 main caps are installed in a block.

All that the flywheel cares, is whether the crank is a 1-pc rear main seal, or a 2-pc RMS one.

All that the starter cares, is that it matches the flywheel diameter, and that the correct holes are drilled in the block. Which it sounds like they aren't. If they are not, then you have no real alternative but to drill the missing one, if in fact it's not there.

You will need the starter for a 83 up Camro/Firebird V8 T-5. You can also use any of the "ministarters" that are out there, as long it's one of the ones with both bolt patterns; or the LT1 starter. All of those will require that your block have the correct bolt pattern drilled in it and will not work if the inner hole is missing.

Yes you can use your existing crossmember (I'm guessing that's what you mean by "brace"?) and drive shaft.

I have no clue what Hawks pulls out of wrecked cars. IMO the term "kit" is a bit .... overly enthusiastic ... to use to describe a pile of junk parts. If there's something you need and they didn't pull it, you can go to the junkyard and pull one yourself. No big deal.

Once you see the parts, it'll be pretty obvious how they go, for the most part. No real surprises I can think of.

Nothing electrical is required, although it wouldn't be a bad idea to hook up the reverse light switch.

Forget about "4-bolt", it is not an issue.

What block do you have?

Re: t-5 swap to 350 4 bolt

not sure, but it's an early 70's block. i found a nice tech write up at f-body motorsports on the t-5 swap. really the only area i'm confused about is the flywheel and starter. so i'm supposed to be aboe to just throw on the t-5 flywheel and starter eh.

Right.

IF it's the 83-85 V8 T-5 flywheel; and IF AND ONLY IF your block is drilled for the late model starter bolt pattern.

Given that, it all bolts right up, as if it was born there. Without that, ..... better have some good shoe leather and lots of bus tickets, because that sucker isn't going ANYWHERE unless you can park it on a hill and roll-start it.

Re: t-5 swap to 350 4 bolt

i'm pretty sure i have a late model chevy truck starter and flywheel. my motor cam out of a truck. a 91 1500. the dude rebuilt it and put it in there in place of the 5.7 factory motor. all i know about the motor is that it's an early 70's 350 4 bolt bored .030 over. the heads are just 74cc stock heads and they suck lol
