Manual transmissions do not have a dipstick.

Re: I hate to ask this...

I don't think there is a dipstik for a manual transmission.
I think its a plug you unscrew and feel if there is fluid upto the plug hole.

I could be totally wrong tho'

**EDIT**

Doh...I almost had the first post.

Re: I hate to ask this...

I hate to tell you. There is no dipstick to check fluid lvl on a T5. There is a plug on the passengerside pf the tranny that you fill and check fluid lvl.

Re: I hate to ask this...

Why do you feel the need to check the fluid?

Re: I hate to ask this...

not like a bolt, my bad didnt mean to call it that, its a plug. And i feel the need to check it because i just bought the car and its kind of a good idea to see what the the last owner screwed up and when you hear gears grinding out of nowhere you think "wow...maybe i should fix that" and common sense says to look at the fluid levels before you do anything

Sounds like your just waiting to screw something up.......... Don't just expect that the last owner wrecked something.
Grab a book or two and start educating yourself son ...... we all started somewhere.........
Don't get me wrong I was 17 once too, and drove things like I stole it

Grinding out of nowhere? Like if your driving down the road, in 3rd gear. all of a sudden it will start grinding? or it grinds when you shift?

Common sense says look at the troubleshooting chart in the FSM btw.
Fluid perhaps would be one of the things I checked, say if it only happened when going up hill, or down hill.

Re: I hate to ask this...

Your trans dipstick is attached to your hand (i.e. pinky finger). Lol. The fill plug on a WC-T5 requires a male torx socket to remove, and it's the upper one on the passenger side, about in the middle of the case. If you can't get it loose, try using a small pipe on the 3/8 ratchet for more leverage. If it hasn't been removed in a long time, it's probably pretty damn tight from corrosion, road grime, etc. If the fluid checks out ok, and you're grinding when trying to shift from one gear to the next, either your synchros are starting to go bad in the trans, or your clutch is not disengaging far enough when you shift. You also want to make sure the previous owner put ATF in there, and not 90 wt. gear lube. WC-T5's use Dexron ATF (that's what that orange sticker says). Gear lube messes up the clutch lining on the synchros.

ok well, i just got under there with a breaker bar and busted it out, not literally but its out and my fluid was ridiculously low. there was atf in there so that was a plus and now the grinding is gone after i filled it

Re: I hate to ask this...

Good deal man. You got lucky in the fact that nothing was permanently thrashed from it being so low on fluid.
