iroc-z 10 bolt?????
hi all this is my first post but have owned 4 third gen camaros, my current is an 1988 iroc-z 5.7 tpi, 700r trans and the aussie 9bolt rear i have owned for 8 years. my problem is that i would like to put a numaricly higher gearin it, it has the bigger or the two centers in it with if i rember is a 3.23. i know that the gears are slim for this rear so what i was thinking about putting a true 10 bolt in it are ther any problems taking a rear out of a z28? will the disc setup fit the fit a 10 bolt? any other problems known?

if your going to put a different rear in there why not upgrade to something a little bigger just in case for the future. you can pick up a 9 inch at a junk yard for pretty much nothing

i am going to keep it closer to stock minor mods, just know this 9 bolt sucks, and would like to make it easier to get parts for. car will never see the track. do i need to find a 10 bolt rear out of an iroc or will any 10 bolt work with my rear disc setup?

Only a diff from a third or fourth gen f-body will be a direct fit although a fourth gen diff is 2" wider on each side. 9 bolt and 10 bolt backing plates are different so you can't easily swap over the caliper mounts from one to the other.

Re: iroc-z 10 bolt?????
If your 9 bolt really has the 3.27 ratio in it already, there is the 3.70 ratio ring/pinion set available from the aftermarket suppliers, that fits your 3 series carrier. If your posi is still working good, and ther rest of the rearend still functions well, you might want to consider going that route. I do have to agree though, that if you're looking for more ratio choices than just 3.70, or want to upgrade to a high performance type posi, the ten bolt rears are definitely the way to go. Here's a link to an ebay seller that has Motive 3.70 gears for your 9 bolt for only $165. They also stock the installation kit (bearings, seals, shims, etc.), and even the T/A aluminum cover/support girdle. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy...4135QQtcZphoto

I'd say upgrade the 9 bolt with 3.70 gears as long as your's is still in good working order. The nine bolt is also a bit stronger than the 10 bolt.

9 to a 10 bolt.......the only thing better about a 9 bolt is the ability to get parts for one
