problems with shifting?
this is probly a dumb question to be ask,
lately my manual doesnt like to go into first or second very well, I have to hold it hard or force it (I try not to, I dont want to break something like a pin I heard once)
later, when im driving, sometimes it has a slight grind sound when I put it in 3rd and even in 4th. fifth I dont think I've had a problem with before.
when I try to put it in reverse, it just grinds in a very loud pitch and you cant get it in.
what I have been doing for a couple months now was stop the car, put it in 5th and still have my foot on the clutch and take it back out and then it will slide in to reverse and I wont have a problem.
Im guessing maybe my clutch is outa tuned?
if so, where would I find this and how would I do it?
I already looked through a couple repair manuals, and it doesnt tell me anything how to tune it.
Thanks.

Re: problems with shifting?
typically when your clutch is going out it affects all gears the same. although it is possible that it is the clutch if you are deadset on looking at it you just remove the transmission and unbolt the clutch from the flywheel the manual should tell you how to remove them but testing them is typically done when you drive it but if you take it out you can just look at the clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel to see if they are bad. i am more set on the idea that your problems lie within the transmission gearcase. if it has a hard time shifting it is possible your synchronizers are going bad or your gears are bad. if some gears(1st,2nd,3rd,exct.) make more noise then they did before then it is possible that your gears are becoming worn. you can tell if they are for sure by removing the tranny then tearing it apart, it is quite simple to do it.

Yup, sounds like your clutch is not disengaging completely.
Could be an issue with the clutch itself, or with the pilot bearing/bushing.
If the clutch is old, it probably is time for a new one; and don't even worry abotu trying to troubleshoot individual symptoms. When you replace it properly, all of the symptoms will be cleared up.
There's no "tuning" associated with a clutch. With the hydraulic actuator system we have, it either works right, or it's broke (or wore out) and needs fixed. Sounds like yours is in the latter state.

Re: problems with shifting?
I agree with Jake. Syncros go out and it is hard to shift to the next gear. Syncros align the gears for a smooth shift.
Look closely at your bell housing to make sure there isn't any oil/grease coming out the bottom weep hole...you could possibly have the clutch slave cylinder or the throw-out bearing leaking, causing the clutch to slip, not enguaging all the way.
More than likely though, it's the syncros in the transmission...

Re: problems with shifting?
"Synchros" don't "go out". Out of all the T-5s I've rebuilt, I don't believe I've ever replaced one, except one 3rd-4th one where somebody had been grinding 4th due to a bad pilot bearing for it looked like about 100,000 miles; and I think I've only ever even changed out about 2 sets of blocker rings - which of course are not even the whole "synchro".
Especially not ALL 5 forward, AND reverse be hard to shift, TOO; since it doesn't even have one.
More than likely, it's NOT the "synchros".
Rather, it's something COMMON to all 6 gears, not individual parts that only affect one gear at a time with all 6 being exactly equally bad.
See my signature for a helpful hint as to determining the most likely cause of a multiple-symptom situation.
