speedo cable burned up and fixed but car wont shift

So i was driving down the palisades parkway and my car seemed sluggish. After a little while my speedometer bounced a few times and then dropped out and smoke started to slowly roll through my vents. I got it to my girlfriend's dad's mechanic upstate and he told me that my leaking manifold to y-pipe connection had led to the speedometer cable melting explaining my the speddo stopped working so my speed sensor was showing an error. i got that fixed and found out that the exhaust leak was due to excess pressure caused by a blocked cat and i had the cat hollowed out. i got my car back and it wont rev over 3500 rpms unless i slapshift and force it to stay in first, second and third gears til whatever rpms. It also will not downshift from 4th for more than two seconds, and it only downshifts when i absolutely slam on the gas. i changed my tranny fluid and the filter and the gasket. i was able to run the rmps over 3500 right after the fluid change and then i let the car sit in the driveway for two days and now its back to running slow and not reving past 3500 and it still wont downshift unless i slam on the gas.

Can any one give me some insight into the problem? (its a 700r4)
I'm thinking about buying a new tranny off of summitracing.com for 1300 but id rather not if theres some other way to fix it like if its a compuiter problem.

Check the adjustment on your TV (throttle valve)cable. It connects to the throttle body. I've heard you can damage the trans. if you drive much with it not connected/adjusted. Maybe it was melted at the same time your speedo cable was.

Re: speedo cable burned up and fixed but car wont shift

thanx i got the same advice from a guy i work with and we checked it out at lunch yesterday. Well the cable isnt lined up right because my mechanic put the wrong bolt in when he rebuilt my motor so that ratching mechanism isnt working properly also the cable is caught up on something and wont go fully back into its housing so i need to drop the tranny and dislodge it. My co-worker said that sometimes it gets caught on a small rod above the transmission crossbrace.
