taking out axle

im having trouble taking out my axle, im under the impression you have to take out that little pin in the middle of the differential, but its almost rounded off. any suggestions on what to do? and are the c-clips those two things on either side of the differential that have the 2 big bolts on them?

Re: taking out axle

The locking bolt for the crosspin shouldn't be that difficult to get out, it's not a big thing and it's not torqued down very hard. The bolt almost always breaks right above the last thread though, so don't feel too bad if that happens to you.

Re: taking out axle

Remove the retaining bolt for the center pin. As mentioned above, it's common for it to break but isn't that difficult to remove if it does. With the retaining bolt out, slide the center pin out. When the center pin is out, the axles can be pushed in so that the c-clips fall out. Then the axle can be pulled out.

Re: taking out axle

Just to make sure, you've got a 10 bolt, right? If it's a 9 bolt, you don't have C clips and you can just unbolt the bearing retainers on the axle housing flanges and pull the axles out with a slide hammer.

No, just unscrew the locking bolt and pry the crosspin out.

Through the pipe plug hole on the front side.
