Yea, I believe that's the much talked about "Gov-lok" grenade locker. That's the weird weighed thingies going on there.

All open diffs look identical, everything else is some form of posi. I'd take a picture of my old open one collecting dust in the corner if it'd help ya.

Quick! List it on eBay and get rid of it! It could explode at any moment!

Seriously, that's the Eaton Gov-Lock. It sucks. It will brake for no reason and with no serious amount of power put to it.

Sell it and buy a Zexel Torsen posi from a 99-02 4th gen. You'll be much happier...

What they said....

It's the Gov-Lock; something you want to avoid.

Phew.... Havent bought it yet.... Was just contemplating it, i need a posi carrier and 4.10 gears so decided to check the used market.

As you can tell im not very knowledgeable about gears, i know what an open looks like, but i couldnt tell what this was.

So definately not worth $100 hes asking. Ill keep looking.

Re: Is this a posi unit?

I'm telling ya man, Detroit true trac. under $400 new, to your door in Canada.
Anything used is going to be worn out, and barely worth the $100 or so.
A zexel would be nice, (if you can find one) but you'd then need to also buy 28 spline axles (a nice, but not necessary $250 upgrade). Kinda puts you right back where you started at $400 or so.
You're in the typical 3rd genner predicament - Finding a posi under $500. Maybe 10% of the guys manage to find a good deal, used, fell off the back of a truck, etc, but most of the time you just gotta pony up the coin.

Re: Is this a posi unit?

I know, i definately hear you, but sometimes my wallet just cant handle it. Im leaving the detroit tru-trac option out of the way till spring, because i can fair with out it right now. In the mean time it wouldnt hurt to look.

My 2 peice RMS T56 flywheel, turned up second hand, pretty much never "used", because it was a demo item, for $150.... (also cost $400 new..) So im gonna stay optimistic for now, worst case scenario, i dont find quite what im looking for and i cant afford a new one, ill just drive up to 5th gear, and save 6th for next year when i can afford it .
