I got a 700R4/4L60E (new rebuild, 1991 Firebird). I have a B&M kit Street/Strip, higher pressure spring, vette servo, and 2400 stall. Under very low load acceleration, trying to look normal here, it will rev to 2500 RPMs before shifting (1-2), by then it will slam the next gear when it shifts wagging the rear end sideways.

What adjustments do I need to make so people stop yelling "SHIFT!!!!" when I cruise by in town?

Not that slamming gears is good for my drivetrain :P

 

sounds like the governor core is sticking. - fairly comon, do a search if you need any DIY info.

As for the bang shifts, yes it is hard on your driveline and it will take out the rear planetary in the trans. - that's why anyone who knows 700's says not to run the B&M shift kit.

 

Have you tried readjusting the TV cable as well? Might give it a shot. I have about the same setup, and mine shifts hard, but driving like a normal dad in a Buick, it's not enough to jerk you sideways. Now when my foot's in it, it's a whole new ball game!

 

i would adjust the tv cable properly. then if that doesn't work, go for the govenor.
