Speedo drive gear

Does anyone know how many teeth are on the speedo drive gear for:
'91 camaro RS, 700R4 transmission, 2.73 rear end, L03

I have done a bunch of searches and came up with nothing.

Re: Speedo drive gear

bowtie overdrives has a speedo calculator that is really good. just plug in the info you currently have along with tire size and it will give to both the drive and driven tooth counts.

Re: Speedo drive gear

I know how to calculate which drive/driven gears are necessary for tire size and rear end ratio, and these tools you guys suggested are great, but they do not answer my question: how many teeth are there on a stock 700r4 speedo drive gear from a '91 RS? 15, 17, or 18?

Re: Speedo drive gear

Thanks Dean, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Anyone else with a newer (91-92) 700r4 that can confirm that the speedo drive gear has 17 teeth?
I know the only way for me to know for sure what speedo gear I have is to jack the car up and check, but i'm hoping to be able to just confirm the number of drive gear teeth, install proper driven gear for my tire size and rear end ratio, and be done with it. Instead of jacking the car up, checking what I have, putting it back together, letting the car back down, ordering parts, jacking it up again, taking it apart, installing proper driven gear, letting it back down...
Just trying to get away with doing this the easy way for once. I appreciate the help!

Re: Speedo drive gear

Unfortunately for you, this is not a time where you can be lazy. With 2.73 gears and 26" tires, there are a few combinations that could work. Chances are, you probably have a 17 tooth drive gear with a 37 tooth driven gear. Jack the car up and look. If you even just pull of the driven gear, you can calculate how many teeth are on the drive. Also, the color is a dead giveaway for teeth number. Just reference the post above.

Also, Kevin, thanks for the reference. Good to know that my work is appreciated.
