trans questions 700r4
As you can see this is my first post since I have been a member in January. I have gotten to be a pro at using the search feature and haven't needed to post until now. Search works.
Now for the problem. 1992 Camaro RS 305TBI, 700r4 no kits, STock size tires.
I have been having some slipping problems going to 2-3. you hear it and feel it for .5 sec then goes into gear. 1-2 feels like it bog's a little. 3-4 feels good.
Now heres the funny part, If I drive like an old man(shifts around 1500-1800 rpm) all shifts perfect. If I go full throttle, feels good shifting 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 all shifting in the 3800-4300 range except 3-4 a bit lower. But all feels good. If I manually shift it from 1 to 2 to 3 to OD all shifts good and firm and feels great. BUT if I drive it to shift in the 3000 rpm range it feels sluggish going from 1-2 then slips going 2-3, and 3-OD is fine. I did the dreaded tranny flush filter swap yesterday expecting to see some crap in the bottom of the pan, but nothing, fluid looked decent, some metel dust of course but no chunks nothing out of the ordinary. Right before the flush I used a can of Seafoam Trans tune up, I have never used it before but I've used seafoam for years on my boat and with good results, tried it, didn't seem to help it or hurt it.
Anyone have any ideas of what it could be, I've been on some forums for 700r4's and have read about the line pressures and hooking up a gauge, but I very rarely have anyone to help me working on my toys. I was thinking about installing a corvette servo, maybe move more fluid and firm up shift's. I know it won't be long before a rebuild, but maybe since it feels good in some instances it could be something I'm not thinking about. ANy thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Re: trans questions 700r4
An upgraded servo would probably give you the shift feel you're looking for. A larger boost valve would also be a nice, but since you just dropped the pan, you're probably not looking to do it again real soon. - The vette servo works well and is less than $50.
Sounds to me like your line pressure is boarder line low, thus part throttle shifting is a bit weak at higher rpms. Manual shifting ups the line pressure for any given gear, thus negates what you're feeling.

I would start by checking the detent cable, and see if it is in adjustment. 3800-4300 RPM full throttle shifts seem low at wide open throttle. How are your down shifts?

Re: trans questions 700r4
Thanks for the replies, I think I will check out the servo, are there any companies I need to stay away from for stuff like this or are they all comparable, I have seen the kits for $50.00, and also for less than $20.00. I saw where the servo goes and doesn't look like it should be too hard. I will start researching the whole line pressure, as far as that goes, are there things that can help line pressure, or is that the dreaded beginning of the end of this 700r4?

Re: trans questions 700r4
the detent cable should be checked, though 4300 isn't much too low for a stock LO3 engine. If search, you'll find the correct way to set the tv/detent cable. If someone has previously messed with it, it could be off.
As for the servo, there really isn't a "kit". Just the servo and new seals for installation. Deffinitley a straight forward installation. IIRC, patc(raptor trans) is around $20-$30.
