89 and 91 700r4 spedo compatability question?

I'm getting a tranny out of a 88 or 89 rs camaro. I'm pretty sure the speedo in the RS is mechanical. I have a 91z and it uses a electronic speedo.

Will my speedo work with the other trans.?

If i remember correctly the mechanical is just a gear and a cable, and mine is a gear and a sender. I would imagine I just screw in my spedo in the trans? Or will this not work at all
