can i tow my car with it like this?

i need to get my 92 camaro to the welding shop for the roll bar install. i don't have an engine, transmission, torque arm, panhard rod. the only thing holding the rear end is the lower control arms. i don't have a trailer but have access to one of those u-haul riggs that you put the front tires up on. do you think it would be ok to take it about 10 miles driving easy.

A uhaul 4 wheel flat bed is going to be like $50 to rent. Its worth it to not end up having your car potentially fall apart and cause an accident.

No. Absolutely not.

If you put the Panhard bar and the torque arm back in, and tie the friont end of the torque arm SECURELY to the floor pan or the crossmember or something, then it would be OK.

Like it is though, no way. Whatever a roll-back costs, it's less than repairing the amount of damage you'll do.

It would make it no problem, you wouldnt be able to drive without the torque arm, but hell i've had a panhard bolt come out once and made the drive home fine without it.

I would however make sure to have the shocks and springs in the rear.

Re: can i tow my car with it like this?

after reading the other replies, i had this picture of me pulling it down the road and the read end breaking out of the car, no point in chancing it, plus i didn't realize how in-expensive it is to get a flatbed. i called keith's towing just a little while ago and set it up for 9:00 in the morning.

There's a time and a place for saving money; mostly when there's LOTS of money on the line, and LITTLE risk of losing. As you now know, this is not one of those times: tow trucks are actually surprisingly CHEAP, if you can schedule them in advance. They're only expensive when it's a "gotta have it now!!!" situation like a wreck or a roadside failure or something.

Re: can i tow my car with it like this?

WHen i bought my car, it was in a similar condition as yours, and the idiots towed it anyway. I GOT REALLY REALLY LUCKY!!!!!

The only thing missing was the torque arm, and the engine/tranny were just kinda sitting there. When the torque arm is not attached, the rear end "twists", because the springs push it down. Its like two loaded guns. AT THE VERY LEAST, the torque arm should be attached to the rear, because if it twists enough, it will brace itself at the front on the floor pan.

This car ended up goin to the scrap yard, for various reasons. I didnt fully understand how the torque arm worked until i took these pix. That tow, snapped the shocks. They had been broken for a couple years before the pic was taken.
