laying down rubber in 2nd

Ok i have the 305 rs and i'm running 190-200hp. I have the 700r4 and it already shifts alittle hard into 2nd but wont chirp. So i am getting a shift kit installed he is also going to be replacing the two lines in it from what ever stock is to a .500in lines he said biggest GM makes is .450in lines he said it would help also.
So do you guys think i will lay down some rubber or only a little chirp!
thanks
kevin

Re: laying down rubber in 2nd

I'm running a stage 1 shift kit w/ tci streetfighter that definitely chirps em hard into 2nd, but not laying any rubber. The shift kit definitely made the drive come together a lot more. Simply nails it off the line now where the stock 700r4 seemed to think about doing anything before it actually did it.

Re: laying down rubber in 2nd

i dont know what lines he could be replacing, trans cooler lines?
anywho, i dont care if he puts in 6" lines, they wont change anything, and your not making the power to lay rubber on the 1-2 shift.
my old 355, maybe 240 horse? with the 700r4 would bark the tires on teh 1-2, and even on the 2-3 shift with just a servo upgrade, sonax spring, and 3:73 gears, but no where near laying rubber, the 408 on the other hand....

Re: laying down rubber in 2nd

Mine will always chirp into second at any speed or throttle and if on the right kind of tar sometimes a third gear chirp at full throttle. A small chirp is all I would expect with a stock tranny with a good shift kit.

Re: laying down rubber in 2nd

When I had my lg4 & 700r4 tranny w/ b&m shift improver kit, I could always chirp 2nd gear. Once I put the turbo on w/ ~300rwhp, it would burn out pretty good on the 1-2 shift. You just need more power.

Re: laying down rubber in 2nd

4.11's and a 200 shot of spray?

pretty sure your'd lay waste to your tires in 1-2, probably even 3rd, now if you could do it more then once, thats TBD

Re: laying down rubber in 2nd

just my .02 but i've got a friend that had a 350 in his with 3.42's on his rear with a 700r4 and he said he put a corvette servo IIRC 1 1/2in in it to make it chirp, said he could light them up after he did that goin into 2nd and a hard chirp goin into 3rd, maybe only had 250rwhp 300ftlbs. said to make sure that its got a tranny cooler cause it wont take heat very well at all. also said that shift kits are not worth it with a 700r4.

Re: laying down rubber in 2nd

probably because you can push the rpm further towards red line, I could get a little spin like that in my jeep now I baby the **** out of it because it is not happy I'm too much for any tranny I own I need a beast.

Re: laying down rubber in 2nd

Chirping is cool, but why would you want to lay rubber on the shift? It's "technically" slowing you down. I wouldn't want more than a nice bark into second.

Re: laying down rubber in 2nd

Thats all you want it to do is chirp the tires into second?

Heres what you do.
Drop the pan. On the right rear of the valve body will be a circular housing with three 10mm bolts. Remove this housing. Inside this housing you will find a piston and a spring. All you have to do is flip the entire spring and piston assembly upside down( some have the piston then the spring, others have the spring and then the piston how ever your is flip it). Insert it back into the housing and then reinstall every thing esle.

That will make for a real fast and hard 1-2 shift. If you dont like it that hard you can just leave the order the same as stock, but replace the spring with a stiffer one.
