Stuck governor on a 727 trans.

Stuck governor on a 727 trans.
I was informed by some transmission buliders that I can go 55 mph and try to jam the car into park for a second, then back down into gear to unstick governor. Supposedly the ratcheting of the parking pawl dislodges dirt from the governor. I don't think this is correct. Any help?

Re: Stuck governor on a 727 trans.
i have heard about this never tried it. the dawgs on the output shaft are spinning too fast for the parking pawl to actually catch and engage park. i never had the guts to try this because what happens if they do catch (especially in a customers car). also i don't think that's the correct way to fix the problem. if you can't remove the gov. and free it up then then try another one.

You need to be an idiot if you believe that but you can destroy as many chrysler 727 transmissions as you want. They're not good for anything anyway. The 904 is the better one. That's about as good as reving up and engine to 5000 rpm and pulling the shifter from park to drive. It'll have about the same effect.

Hey Stephen, just kinda curious as to why you think the 904 is better than the 727? They are both the same design. The 727 just has bigger internals than the 904. I'm not partial to either as i haven't seen a dodge design tranny that i do like.

I'm not a dodge person myself but I've seen a lot more 904's at the track than 727. Sort of like how a powerglide is more popular in a drag car than a TH350 or TH400
