whats the advantage and disadvantage of this, i got a 2200 stall converter and my trans was custom built if it makes any diff.
i did to the temp hook up around the block to see what it was like, and it seemed pretty cool, but dont see how it can help my ET

Re: 700R4 Lock up switch
It works by locking up the converter. Under normal acceleration the input shaft of the transmission will be spinning around 500-700rpm( could be higher if you have a stall converter) less then what the flywheel is spinning. This mod gets rid of that lose of rpm. Ei more power will get to the wheels.

Re: 700R4 Lock up switch
The torque converter provides torque multification. Not so sure locking it for perf reasons would really help. Maybe as your winding out 2nd or 3rd at the strip, engaging the clutch might help, a little, maybe.
The clutch is not designed to be engaged under high power situations. I suspect it wouldn't last long being subjected to such treatment.
You don't want the tranny changing gears with tc locked-up. That would be hard on the band and clutches.
If you come to a stop with tc locked, the eng will die (unless you shift to neutral).
IMHO, the only time it really provides a real advantage is when cruising down the road at around 45+ mph. In that condition it will save you some gas. Under cruise conditions, the computer should be engaging the TC clutch anyway.
