Re: narrowing a 9"
are these rims something special? not to come off like a smart azz, but it would be a whole lot easier to just buy rims with the correct offset than deal with narrowing and all kinds of fab work to make an axle fit.
i believe you need to narrow each side of the axle 1.75", thats 3.5" overall, that will sit the wheel in the same spot as a 15x10 with 5.5bs. The rim will be about lush with the outside of the fender, and the tire will bulge out a bit from there depending on the tire used.
I dont think you can narrow the rear that much.
buy new rims

oh no absolutely! i know what you mean they arnt nething specail just some tt2's but the reason i did that big of an offset is because i am a big fan of deep dish rims and i knew narrowing it wouldnt cost nething extra coming from moser. i just got done tearing the car down and rebuilding it so it needed a new rear end to hold up to the power but now i jsut needed to know how much i needed to narrow it b4 i order it

Re: narrowing a 9"
Best fit for 15 x 10 rims is 5.5 backspace. If the rims have 3-3/4" backspace then each side needs to be narrowed back 1-3/4" to put the axle flange in a position so the 3-3/4" backspace rims sit under the fenders in roughly the same position as regular rims.
I'd double check on the cost of narrowing. They probably have third gen diffs in stock to stock specifications. Narrowing the diff means they'll have to cut back the axle tube and jig weld the ends back on then shorten and respline the axles.

Re: narrowing a 9"
once again are you even sure you can have the bolt in housing narrowed 3.5" overall and retain all the stock bracket locations? i would check that first.
