What does a .500 boost valve feel like?
I've got a really simple question that i'm having a hard time getting a answer to.I've got a Sonnax .500 boost valve that i'm ready to install and would like to know just what i can expect it to 'feel' like.I know it increases line pressure to firm up shifts, but i've read different comments that the .500 boost valve is a race item and not needed for the street.I initially bought it to firm up my rather sluggish feeling shifts. The trans is still fairly fresh and i've already installed a corvette servo.I just want to hear from someone who put one in and it's effect on the shifts. Thanks in advance.
Re: What does a .500 boost valve feel like?
It will help raise line pressure across the board. It will firm up the shifts a little, depending on what size boost valve is in there now, and only in "D" or "OD" position. If you want to firm up the manual 1-2 shift, then you will need to add a .296 or .300 intermediate/reverse boost valve, as the .500" main boost valve does nothing here.

Re: What does a .500 boost valve feel like?
Thanks for the reply Pro-built,my 1-2 shift feels pretty firm, but 2-3 kind of slides into gear.I didn't think a little more line pressure could hurt,i just didn't know if the .500 boost valve would be too much.I don't want it to slam into gear or anything. It sounds like a fairly subtle change.

The Corvette servo will do more than the .500" boost valve, but I would do both, as the 2-3 shift slide is tearing up the 3-4 clutches. I carry these parts on my website.

I used to wonder the same thing as you. Do I go for the .471 or the .500 boost valve? Would the .471 be just right and the .500 too much?
.....I like the .500 valve. Feels very streetable. I took my mother for a ride and she didn't complain at all about the shift. (And she hates firm shifting cars)

Make sure you get the snap ring all the way back up where it belongs. There is a first ring that a lot of people mistake for the snap ring groove when doing it while the trans is still in the car.
