I recently took my Z/28 to the local dragstrip and took it for a couple passes. The car never made it over 82 mph and the fastest tme was 16 sec. So I said something to my brotherinlaw and he said it sounded like the car was never getting out of 2nd gear. I then took the car on the highway and floored it, it shifted fine out of first and at around 75 mph or so it started to red line at 5500 and I kept on it only too let off at 85 when the rpm's where at almost 7000. As i let off the car shifted immediately into third. I did it again in the overdrive setting on the shifter and the same thing happened. Under normal driving it shifts through all the gears with no problem and is very strong. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance, Mike

the tranny is the 700r4 w/stock converter

 

make sure that cable that goes from the tranny to throttle linkage is working properly

 

Under normal driving conditions it shifts properly through all 4 gears.

Also if I am driving on the highway at anything over 80mph in 4th gear and I floor it it will shift into second and buries the tach needle.

 

Make sure the valve body and governor are "matched," I recently had this problem and a governor swap corrected the problem. Call Dana (ProBuilt Automatics) @ (909) 795-1876 to get some (THE BEST) advice. -Bill
