shifts strange
I have a 1990 GTA with a rebuilt 700. The transmission was rebuilt about 4 months ago before I bought the car. I seen the receipt. Now I am not real familiar with these higher power cars seeing as I have only owned a v6 firebird and a v6 camaro, but here's my problem. When I drive around town (35-45 mph), the car won't shift until around 4000 rpm. It seems to me that it should shift sooner than that because I feel I'm screaming down the streets and only going 40 mph. On top of that, when I let off the gas, my tach will go back down to about 1200 rpm until I step on it again. Then there's what I call a catch up time when the tach will climb back to around 2500 rpm before I feel the car accelerate more. I don't know if this is normal but to me it doesn't seem so. Do I need to get someone to look at it? I'm pretty sure it's still under warranty. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply doc. I've tried messing with the cable and I'm pretty sure it's where it needs to be. I've followed all the instructions on here and am pretty confident. I have a replacement governor on the way since it's quick and cheap. Worth a try I guess.

Re: shifts strange
it could quite possibly be a vaccume leak, as im having the same problem you are where it shifts at 4g, if u can hear a like a hum or somthing other then straight revs, its most likley a vaccume leak or u need a vaccume module (which is a very cheap fix.)

Moonlight,
I bet you're right. When it revs, I can hear a high pitched humming noise. I'll check it out. Thanks very much.

Ok changed the governor. Put everything back. Lost some fluid. Replaced fluid. Took for a test drive and started out fine. Then started slipping. Got home and checked dipstick. Hard to tell but looks like I may have overfilled some. Is slipping tranny a common occurrance if filled too much? I am an idiot.

I've got a similar problem - when I'm cruising around town, and I'm driving at say 25-30 MPH, if I press the gas more, the RPMs climb maybe 300-400 and then I finally feel the car "catch" and accelerate. I haven't looked at the TV cable yet, but could this or a vacuum leak be the problem and can someone explain why? Thanks.
