This is a personal preferance question, so you are undoubtedly going to get answers from both sides of the table, cause people generally like what they have.

I did my homework when I went to buy a shifter, and I checked out all the usual suspects, Hurst Competition-Plus, Hurst Billet-Plus, and the B&M Ripper. I bought the Ripper and have never looked back. It is best described by the word SOLID! The shifter feels so solid and precice under all conditions and it is smooth and pleasant for normal driving. There is absolutely no doubt when you are in the gear, and you have to be doing something very wrong to miss a shift.

Now some may say that I do not know about the other shifters, but I have customers and friends with both the comp-plus and billet-plus and I have driven them both and in my oppinion they are not NEARLY as nice as the Ripper. They just don't have the solid feel to them. They also have a 2-piece stick where the bolts can come loose, and the overall construction is just not as beefy. Dont get me wrong, the Billet-Plus shifter is a very nice piece, but a friend of mine bought it cause it was 15 bucks cheaper than the Ripper, and when he tried mine, he determined that it was the worst 15 bucks he had ever saved. My best advice, see if you can find some fellow Third-Gen owners who have them and feel for yourself. You don't even have to drive the car, just sit in and row the stick, and you can feel the difference for yourself. This will be the best way do decide which one you like the best.

Thanks! Think I might just be getting the Ripper. Just one more question...How big of a bitch was it to put in?

I've got the ripper. Everything said above is on the money. Can't add anything about installation in car (tranny was out when mine was put on).

Installation is fairly simple. Just follow instructions. Removing the console is the most difficult part, beyond that it is pretty easy. Should only take a couple of hours. If the console was not there it would be a 30 minute job. Do not over-adjust the stops, or the transmission may pop out of gear. Enjoy your Ripper.

The hurst shifter you used will not even compare to the aftermarket hurst sfiters, I have tried them to and they are not nearly as tight.

Ok, Im lost when you guys say there "tight". What do you mean by that? Also, Ive seen an Iroc with the T56 tranny and it had the Ripper and the thing didnt look one bit shorter than my stock one. And B&M says that the ripper has shorter throws. How could they be shorter if the stick is the same size? True it was on the T56 and not my T5 but still the 2 cant be that different. How long is the Billet/Plus stick??? And is the Ripper really that long??? Thanks!
